Pear Store Re-Opening

The Pear Computers Inc. is continuing there business in Second Life. After a involuntarily break (Real Life to busy) we reopened our store at Porcupine. We have alot of new ideas and motivation. We are developing in the moment the Pear Book P2. It will have alot of new features and a reworked design. Havard Business Review

The well-know business magazin Havard Business Review published an article about advatar-based marketing in there June 2006 issue. They are also mention the Pear Computers Inc. with a promising future in Second Life. To confirm this promis, we hope to work in the near future on more updates for the P1 and also on new products. In the moment the RL has caught us, and we are trying hard to spent some time at the Pear Laps. But be sure the next upadte will come soon!

After long time working on the Beta Version of the new update pComm we are happy to give out the free updates. With the new pComm you can chat from our website to SL. You can also see who is around your laptop and you can change the TopText on you Laptop. Try out the new Pear Application atour Store! First PearLife* Magazine

With the new Update for the Pear Book we also launched our monthly magazine PearLife* : It tells you all about the PearWorld and Second Life. You can get it for free at our store coming with a free P-Shirt.
The first issue tells you about a desinger of modern furnitures in SL - about Zoom Radio and the Drama in SL by AriesRose Fluffball. Also you can find out all about the Pear staff and what the future will bring for Pear users. Have fun reading it. If you have any ideas for the magazine let me know - we are also looking for writers - get in contact with Zoe Cure.

pComm Server overcharged

We are little surprised how many people are using the new pComm function in SL. Our server is currently running out of capacities - so it could happend that you don't get a connection to your pComm Interface or it says 'The operation has timed-out'. Beta of pComm released

We started to update the Pear Books now with a Beta Version of the pComm. Get in contact with Zoe Cure to update your Pear Book or if you don't have one - get it at our store. Please let me know if you have any problems with the Beta version! Thanks and hope to see you soon... Zoe!

Linden tested pComm Demo

Since there is the pComm - Demo setup at our store the traffic went up dramatically. Also Linden Lab staff came to try the new feature. Pathfinder Lindens conclusion of the pComm: "I have never seen a system like this that anyone can buy and use easily ... if you create something that people really find useful, it will always be a success ... people always have that problem, they are at work where they cannot use SL, and they want to keep in touch with people in-world ... thank you for taking the time to show me this, Zoe. please let me know when the update is ready, and I will happily try it out."
You are also welcome to try the new Beta-Version at our store. Use the Silver Pear Book at the Update boxes at The Pear Store.

Next P1 update in progress!

We are happy to announce the next P1 update called pComm. You can use our web interface to connect to your Pear laptop in SL. You can talk to people standing nearby your Pear in SL by typing your message in the chat field at the website. At the moment we are still working on the Beta Version - it will be a free update for all Pear Books P1 (Silver & Black) - you just have to drop your old Pear Book in our update vendor at the Pear Store in Porcupine. The date of release will be in the next days - check the group chat or our store where a beta demo is waiting for you.

About the Creators

Zoe Cure is one of the managers of Pear Computers. She is responsible for the product design and the brand and marketing. She founded the company with his buisness partner in January 2006. When you want to catch her in Second Life she is mostly busy and sometimes you have the feeling she lost her voice.

But when you meet her in a relaxed moment you can learn a lot about her work. Pear Computers is her passion in Second Life. She is giving it every second she spents here. In real-life she is a film editor working in Germany. She is editing commercials and music videos and lovest o party a lot. It is her first time, playing a game like Second Life and she got real addicted to it.

Kilgore Pontoppidan is the other part of Pear Computers. He gave the Pear its brain. When he met Zoe, he was searching to have a useful task as a scripter in Second Life; he came up with great ideas for the product like the Pear Book P1. Now he is managing the software development at Pear Computers. Most of his time at Second Life he is scripting and playing around with new idea's. His plans for Pear Computers are based on his knowledge in real-life. He lives and works in Danemark as a Senior Software Engineer. If you have any question about scripting, he will have always have a clever answer.

Gentoo Speculaas came to the grand event when the Pear Book P1 was first set up for the public. He loved the idea of the Pear and wanted to dedicate his time and talents to the company. He is now the head Sales Manager and part-time Developer for other Pear products. He has a certification in A+ and loves to build PCs as a hobbie. He also manages Zoom Radio; a live radio station in Second Life. He will be with Pear till the end. And if you ever have any questions about any Pear product just ask him.

The History of Pear

Pear Computers was founded in the middle of January 2006 at Porcupine by Zoe Cure and Kilgore Pontoppidan. The idea was to build a real powerful tool that makes your life easier and more interesting in Second Life. After discussing the options for applications, they decieded to launch the first version of the Pear Book P1 with four programs. An E-Mail client that lets you send and recieve mails from and to real-life. A visitor detector, telling you who is around your laptop, even when you are offline. Also a calculator and and admin tool that lets you have control over the access to your laptop. A week later they at the BarouNet to the Pear Book, a wide-spread network of Second Life.

The resonance for Pears new product was amazing. They started to build a shop at Porcupine and founded the Pear Computers Inc. Group, which counts today over 100 members. After there great feedback, they employed a sales mananger and started to open new shops at the Plaza and the CGN.

The Future of Pear Computers is looking good. With a lot of fun and idea's they are working on there new upadtes. The next free update will be pComm. An application that let you communicate with you Pear Book over a website, even when you are offline at Second Life. (Read the pComm article).
